This project was a K-6 lab school connected to U.L.L. in Louisiana. I attempted to use natural and design elements to combat the large amounts of stress associated with traditional education. This was pursued through an application of biophilic and environmentally engaged design.
It was important to not only make the school secure, but to avoid the impression of limitations that typical measures such as fences can have on occupants.
Using project based pedagogy as a goal the school accommodates recreation as well as stem and small engaged classes for better knowledge retention and exploration.
Centering the design around a courtyard allowed for classroom engagement incorporating the landscape as a part of the program while meeting multiple needs.
